Portfolios of Achievement
By definition it is likely every student that applies for a particular course has similar grades (as these have been stipulated in the adverts). Over the last few years it has started to become more apparent many universities and employers are putting more emphasis on personal statements. Personal statements offer a higher level of discrimination. We know this puts our students in a very strong position with applications.
Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology has developed a cutting edge science curriculum in conjunction with many of our employer, academic and healthcare partners. This is recognised at a national level and it is important students can demonstrate this.
All of our students have portfolios of Achievement. These are documents that bring together all the ‘employability’ skills a student has into one place. It is a document students can take with them to interviews, remind them what they have achieved when completing applications and help the wording of them.
Each student has a personal folder, which contains the following information:
- Curriculum vitae
- Information about Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology
- An overview of Challenge Projects
- Details of their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
- A summary of skills they have learnt
- A summary of careers advice they have received
- A summary of work experience undertaken
- GCSE exam certificates
- BTEC & A Level exam certificates
- Duke of York Award
- Other qualifications
- Extracurricular activities
The Portfolio of Achievement brings together the students’ academic performance, Challenge Projects, careers support and advice (including work experience) and extracurricular activities. Each time a student completes a Challenge Project they will complete a project summary sheet. This sheet outlines what they have achieved and learnt, who they have worked with and allows them to add examples of exemplar work that they may wish to take to an interview or look back on. Similarly, there are reflection sheets for work experience, extracurricular activities, etc. As students’ progress through the College and their education (and indeed their careers) they can continue to develop the contents. All the paperwork is available on One Note so students can customise it to their own requirements.
We believe the Portfolios of Achievement are a very valuable tool for the students as they move on, we have had very positive feedback from a number of students who have taken them to interviews.
